Our Little Village of Burk’s Falls like many other small rural settings has had it’s struggles keeping the business community and area organizations thriving. This blog is to highlight the small in town businesses that offer you not only unique shopping experience but also services that you would not receive at a big box store in a larger centre. I am focusing on Burk’s Falls today because it is where I live however all the small Almaguin communities also offer many unique shopping experiences as well.
Entering from the south entrance into Burk’s Falls you will find the Garden Centre. It provides not only plants shrubs but also landscaping design and much more. Inside you will find all kinds of interesting gift ideas an unique items from home decoration to fragrance candles and more
Next on your right you will find The Circle Hawks Store filled with native & cultural items healing and spiritual items, unique clothing accessories and wonderful selection of jewellery. Lynette also holds drumming circles and the calm well kept gardens make the store surroundings welcome and serene.
Next on you left don’t miss out on Patricia’s Esthetics ( moving to the outskirts of the village July 1st) Here you can get a manicure, pedicure or a relaxing massage. Also beautiful scarves, unique soap products and other personal care items.
Right across the street is the Discount Bait & tackle. Here in this little space you will find: fishing and hunting supplies, recreational water sport toys, life jackets, hats and outdoor wear and most anything to prepare you for your visit to the cottage or camping trip.
Back to the left side of the street just down from the Stan Darling Park is the Art Centre fill with art and crafts form local artisans. Inside an abundance of art to chose from whether it be paintings sculptures jewelery or clothing accessories and a warm smile to greet you. The Centre also hosts information about the area and the Almaguin Highlands Chamber of Commerce.
Over the bridge and turn left and you are at the Welcome Centre to enjoy gourmet coffee, fudge, muffins and more. Here too you will find area information and the beginning of the Heritage River Walk by first crossing the foot bridge over the falls.
Turning back into the community and left continuing north you will be delighted to stop at the Wooden Roo. Here quality furniture, cabinets and all types of wood working is made displayed and sold. Also more eclectic gifts are throughout this unique store so allow enough time for browsing.
Above are only some of the businesses in our village and there are many more for your every day needs such as a hardware store, convenience store, electronic store, hairdressers, restaurants, pub etc. So next time you are coming to our Village please drop in to one of our unique establishments…You will not be disappointed.
